Troubleshooting Mitsubishi TV Shutdown Problems

Mitsubishi TV's contain diagnostic features that remember the cause of the last shutdown, as long as no one has turned the set on again after the shutdown occurred.  To read the diagnostics, do the following:

2001-2008 Models

These models have three different front panel LED indicators:  POWER/TIMER, STATUS, AND LAMP.  When a shutdown occurs, one of these lights will either blink or stay on constantly in green, yellow, or red.  The meanings of these codes are shown in the first eight rows of the table below.

The set also stores a two-digit error code that gives more specific information about the cause of the last shutdown.  These are shown in the last twelve rows of the table below.  You can read these codes by the following procedure:

1. Wait for the set to shut itself down.  Don't turn it back on.
2. Press and hold both the
   • DEVICE and MENU buttons, or
   • INPUT and MENU buttons
   on the front of the TV for at least 5 seconds.  (Button names are different on different models.) 
3. The LED on the front of the set will start blinking a 2-digit code to indicate the type of problem detected.  For example, the sequence:  blink-blink, pause, blink-blink-blink, indicates an error code of 23.  This sequence repeats 5 times, so you can figure out if you are seeing 23 or 32.   If in doubt, repeat steps 2. and 3. (Don't turn the TV on!) to recheck the count.
4. Look up the code in the following list:

5. Read the Probable Cause/Fix box to find a possible solution to the problem.  If you need to call a service center, be sure to give them the code you discovered.  It will help them diagnose the problem and order the needed parts.

2009 Models

SPECIAL NOTE: These models may have a software problem that can cause a whole raft of weird symptoms, including but not limited to: No picture, frozen picture, picture stuck on the blue "Welcome" screen, no audio, noisy audio, no power, will not boot, will not turn off, turns off intermittently, or locked-up controls.  This can often be corrected by upgrading the software with new version v11.03 from Mitsubishi's website at https://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/support/documents/WD-60737. Enter your model number and download:

Follow the instructions and see if it corrects your problem.

Mitsubishi 2009 models use a different error code system.  As soon as a shutdown occurs, the STATUS LED will either blink or stay on constantly in green, yellow, or red.  Look up the blink code in first seven rows of the table below.

You can also retrieve error codes that cover more possible problems on 2009 models by this method:

1. Wait for the set to shut itself down.  Don't turn the set on.
2. Press and hold both the ACTIVITY and CHANNEL DOWN buttons on the front of the TV for at least 5 seconds. 
3. The LED on the front of the set will start blinking a 2-digit code to indicate the type of problem detected.  For example, the sequence:  blink-blink, pause, blink-blink-blink, indicates an error code of 23.  This sequence repeats 5 times, so you can figure out if you are seeing 23 or 32.   If in doubt, repeat steps 2. and 3. (Don't turn the TV on!) to recheck the count.
4. Look up the code in the last eight rows of the following list:

2010-2012 Models

Mitsubishi 2010-2012 models use two different types of error codes:

1. After a shutdown, the LED's on the front of the set may either blink or stay on constantly in green, yellow, or red.  The meanings of these codes are given in the first nine rows of the table below.
2. If the LED's blink first red and then yellow, they are giving one of the 2-digit error codes shown in the last eight rows of the table, below.  For example, 3 red blinks followed by 4 yellow blinks would represent error code "34."
